This week the elevated CTA platform at Clark and Lake took a step back in time as vintage train cars from the 1920s and 1970s rolled into the station in celebration of the L train’s 125th birthday. They ran around the stops in the Loop, tooting their horns for several hours.
While out on lunch break, a couple Active Trans staffers hopped on board for a ride around the Loop — for professional research, of course.

Carol Ross Barney has done it again. The noted Chicago architect — who is renowned for her civic, cultural and social design projects for the public — has made an indelible impact in Chicago with the completion of the Chicago Riverwalk.
Given that the full Riverwalk officially opens on Saturday with a host of special events, we thought it would be a good opportunity to get to know the woman behind the design of one of Chicago’s most exciting pieces of new infrastructure.

The lengthy construction process for the Navy Pier Flyover has been frustrating for many Lakefront Trail users, but the city says it will be finished next year.
The flyover, which will allow people biking and walking on the trail to bypass congested vehicle traffic around Navy Pier, is one of the highest profile active transportation projects in the region. We get questions about the status often, especially as temperatures warm up and more people use the trail.

Can you imagine having trail access to Chicago’s diverse neighborhoods and the suburbs as a bicyclist or runner?
Did you know the Chicago River already has 13.2 miles of trails for biking and walking and that the city will complete an additional 1.7 trail miles in 2017?
We couldn’t be more excited for the next steps in the campaign to build a continuous Chicago River Trail. It's energizing to think about the river trail's potential to promote the city's cultural life.
