Our work in Chicago has gained the city a reputation as one of the best cities for biking in the country.  We have earned this standing by advocating in the City government, forming partnerships and working as consultants on bicycling and pedestrian issues for the Chicago Department of Transportation.

Our work includes successfully fighting for city ordinances like the three-foot passing law that protect bicyclists and other vulnerable users of the road, and collaborating with Chicago schools through the Safe Routes to School program, which encourages and enables children, parents and teachers to safely walk and bike to their community schools.

We are strengthening this work to reach across the city. Our community liaisons work in underserved neighborhoods and populations to address inequalities, grow excitement and make sure everyone in the city has access to safe, healthy and reliable options for biking, walking and transit.

Chicagoans are increasingly excited about expanding their active transportation choices. As evidence, thousands of individuals and more than 350 organizations participated in the 2009 Bicycle Commuter Challenge. We build on this energy through unique events like Bike the Drive, Open Streets , the Boulevard Lakefront Tour and Winter Bike to Work Day.
