Did You Know?

People walking are five times as likely to be killed by a driver traveling 30 mph as one going 20 mph.

2010 season ends tonight at Ed Rudolph Velodrome

Tonight is the 2010 closing night for track racing at the Ed Rudolph Velodrome in Northbrook, Chicagoland's home for track racing.

It's a special night for both fans and spectators. Come watch the state championships for two unique disciplines: Madison (a race with partners who sling each other into the action every other lap or so, like a tag-team) and Kerin (where racers are paced with a motor scooter leading up to a final sprint lap).

There will also be a free barbeque for fans and racers. The action starts at 6:45 p.m. The Madison should lead things off in the first set of races.

The Ed Rudolph Velodrome is easily accessible by both bike and Metra. Located near Waukegan and Techny in Northbrook, the track is very close to several recommended routes, including the Northbranch Trail, on the newly-updated Active Trans Chicagoland Bike Map. It is getting dark much earlier now, so be sure to wear both front and rear blinkies (it's the law).

And the closest Metra stop, the Northbrook Station on the Milwaukee District North Line, is less than a mile away.
