New faces!
Active Trans welcomes Jared Weiner, who will serve as the City of Chicago Department of Transportation’s Pedestrian Program Coordinator. Jared is pursuing a masters in urban planning and policy at the University of Illinois-Chicago. Born in Milwaukee and raised in Arlington Heights, he is a product of the Midwest and is one of the few people he knows who actually look forward to the Chicago winters. This past summer Jared traded his car for a bicycle and hasn’t looked back. “Driving stressed me out, I’d much rather walk, bike, or take public transit,” Jared says.

CTA cuts coming Feb. 7
CTA has announced it will reduce service on 119 routes, 41 which will have fewer hours of operation. See the routes that are affected here. Any cuts in service will affect those most in need, which is why we encourage those who can to continue supporting and taking transit. We already know that cuts and fare increases will have serious impacts on transit users. We understand and appreciate that local transit agencies are in a difficult position. The economy contributed in a major way to the proposed service cuts and fare increases.

We call on our leaders to find permanent solutions to both the operating and capital needs that our transit agencies face. It is not enough to simply repair and maintain existing services.

And the winner is…
Congratulations to our magnificent volunteers who were honored at the annual Volunteer Appreciation Party!
