Document pedestrian peril in your community

Crossing the street when cars don’t stop is terrifying. Help show Illinois legislators how important it is that they pass HB43 (Must Stop for Pedestrians bill) now!

HB43 requires drivers to come to a complete stop – not just yield – for any pedestrian in any crosswalk. This is an important clarification that needs to be made for all drivers as well as pedestrians. As part of Active Trans’ campaign for HB 43, we are looking for video evidence of the pedestrian crash problem in Illinois.

If you know of a treacherous intersection, document it with video. Post it on YouTube and let us know. Active Trans staff will select one video at the end of February that captures particularly well the need for HB 43. The winning person will receive a one-year premium membership or renewal to Active Transportation Alliance and an Active Trans T-shirt.

Your video should include:

• A vehicle failing to yield for a pedestrian in an intersection
• An intersection with no stop signs or stop lights
• Preferably an intersection with busy pedestrian traffic including children
• The video should be no more than five minutes in length.

The video must be taken at an uncontrolled intersection (that means no stop signs or traffic lights). The winning videographer must sign a release giving Active Trans the right to use the video.
