Quick releases

Parking meters saved

We are taking bike parking off the endangered species list. Although parking meters are being replaced with the pay-and-display kiosks, the City of Chicago has designated some meters each block as bike parking. Active Trans asked you to call your aldermen to make sure they knew about this unexpected side effect. Thanks for all of your hard work!

Remember: You can request a bike rack by calling 311.

Member meeting 2009

Find out what we have been up to in the last year and where you can steer our organization. Stay tuned for more details on our Annual Member Meeting. Mingle with other fab members and learn how we can work with you to make your community a better place to live, work and play!

Bingo with Active Trans and I-Go

Don’t miss an evening of playing bingo with drag queens! Active Trans and I-Go are hosting a free mixer for its members Oct. 19 at Hamburger Mary’s, 5400 N. Clark, Chicago, for an evening of Ham-BINGO. Active Trans members get in for free and their friends can join for only $30 ($25 if they are I-Go members!). There will be plenty of bingo prizes and food and drink specials for you to enjoy. RSVP to matthew@activetrans.org. Hope to see you there!

Streetside Outreach wrap up

Thanks to a core of 26 trained Streetside Outreach volunteers, several thousand prospective members heard about Active Transportation Alliance at festivals and other events this summer. We recruited more than 200 new members at events like Bike to Work Week commuter stations, Open Streets and Pitchfork Music Festival.

You too can help advance the Active Trans movement by becoming a Streetside Outreach volunteer. In addition to recruiting new members that increase Active Trans’ clout with lawmakers and budget for programs and campaigns, you are investing in your transportation advocate, Active Transportation Alliance, when you become an outreach volunteer. You can become an outreach volunteer when you attend a one-hour training session. The next trainings are scheduled for spring 2010.

If you have any questions, or would like to see Active Trans at an event in your neighborhood, please contact Matthew Griffin, matthew@activetrans.org.
