Leave the car at home and be care-free Sept. 22

You probably have a favorite story of getting around on foot, bike or transit. We want everyone to discover their own story.

On Tuesday Sept. 22, Active Trans will partner with RTA, Pace, Metra, CTA and communities around the region for Chicagoland Car-Free Day. Cities around the world will celebrate the sans auto day with similar events

Chicagoland Car-Free Day will only work if we get everyone involved.

You’ve already gotten it and that’s why we need you to spread the word about pledging to go car-free Sept. 22. The more people we get to pledge to go car-free, the more fun the day will be! Plus, when you take the pledge on our website, you get a coupon for $1 off a large drink at Caribou Coffee on Sept. 22 (We’re not that crazy to ask you to go caffeine-free).

Get your community involved

We are looking for partner towns, villages and organizations. There are plenty of ways you can promote Car-free Day to your residents or members. Tell us what you have planned and we will list it on our website www.chicagolandcarfree.org

• Free walking tours
• Free group bike rides
• Street performances
• Discounts for customers with bike helmets or transit cards
• YouTube video contest about transit
• A Walk to School Day
• A Shop Local Day
• Block parties and festivals
• Free cycling class
• Free transit passes

Celebrate Car-Free Day on your own

• Take the pledge!
• Lead a walking school bus for your children and their friends to get to school
• Plan to take Metra, Pace and/or CTA with the RTA’s online trip planner www.gooro.com
• Map out a walking trip to a local store with your family
• Discover what bike routes lead to the closest transit stop
