How do you get around?
For work, mostly CTA. Sometimes I bike or drive. On the weekends, mostly walking around our neighborhood with our 1-year old.
What is your favorite part?
Since I’m currently in graduate school, it’s nice to fit in some uninterrupted reading on the commute.
How long have you been commuting that way?
Since we moved to Chicago in 2007. Even with all the griping I hear people talk about the CTA, it is a whole lot better than nothing at all. I used to bike a lot more, but with a child, graduate school and work, time is a premium and I find the CTA suits my current schedule a bit better.
What is one thing you wish was better?
I grew up in Toronto and Hong Kong and am spoiled with great mass transit systems from those cities. I want to support what Chicago has, even with all the problems inherent to an older system. For commuting by bike, I wish we had more bike lockers like they do in Vancouver or Toronto. I have a pretty good bike that I’d like to ride downtown but don’t, simply because I’m afraid it will get stolen.
What is your favorite biking route?
The lakefront path when it’s not crowded! But pretty much any street with bike paths are good.
Describe your perfect commute.
Hitting green lights at every intersection I come across.
