Advocacy complete with transit piece

By Rob Sadowsky

In November, we announced our mission expansion, spreading our wings a bit and taking on pedestrian and public transit as advocacy strategies. Since that date, we’ve pulled together a group of our members who are experts in the transit field to help answer the following questions: “What do you mean by taking on transit? What will that work look like?”

This transit task force recently completed its initial work and proposed a broad set of strategies to be integrated into our strategic plan. We are excited to share our vision of an integrated and expanded transit system throughout the region that meets the needs of our members and the communities in which they live. These strategies really get us excited about the potential of Chicagoland transit, and we need your help to implement them.

All of our core work to promote bicycle-friendly communities starts with our strength – our members. It is far easier to win the little battles and the big ones when our members are there from the beginning to the end – making phone calls, writing letters, joining local task forces, and helping find new opportunities. We could also use your help to spread the message of this new work to potential new members who you might know that are passionate about transit and mobility issues. Let them know there’s a new group in town helping to make our communities more livable.

This work can’t survive standing alone from our other work. After all, better transit means good things for the region: expanded transportation options – including biking and walking – and a cleaner and healthier region. Plus, we need to connect the transit piece to the bicycle piece and use transit strategies to win even bigger victories for bicycling. That’s our commitment and promise to our members; let’s live up to that promise.
