Herron ride opens education doors for youth

Doors to education are now open to youth thanks to generous donations to the Herron Memorial Scholarship Fund through the 2008 Dick Herron Memorial Bike and Walk.

Youth who have participated in youth bicycling programs are eligible to win $2,000-$5,000 in scholarship funds to support their post-high school education. Multi-year grant support is also available.

Youth applicants are invited to submit answers to the following questions:

· What is your relationship to the bike program you are in now?
· What are your educational aspirations?
· How has the bicycle program impacted your life?
· How will you use the scholarship funds?

Each applicant should include a brief letter of support from his or her supervisor at the bicycle program and a letter of acceptance (if available) from his or her educational institution of choice.

Please submit applications to Rob Sadowsky, executive director of the Active Transportation Alliance, at rob@activetrans.org. Call 312.427.3325 x228 with questions.

The Active Transportation Alliance is proud to administer the funds, which total $10,000. The Dick Herron Memorial Bike and Walk remembers bicyclists and pedestrians who have been killed in traffic. Donations through the ride support youth development and education.
