Only 11 percent of Chicagoland residents ride transit to work.

Teams signing up for Bike Commuter Challenge at record pace

The first week of registration for the Bike Commuter Challenge was a record breaker!

New this year is a stand-alone website, offering a simplified registration process and — most importantly — individual accounts for all participants. Now team leaders and their team members each sign-up and log their own bike commutes.

With the new system, each participant can stay abreast of his or her team's progress with real time information showing where they stack up against the competition during Bike to Work Week, June 9-15.

As with past challenges, teams will be judged on the percentage of total employees who ride at least one bike trip to work — even partway.

But now, since each team member needs to sign-up individually, other teams can not only see rate of participation for their competition in-progress, but how many registered team members still need to log a commute.

On a team and want to razz the competition via social media? Twitter handles are listed for many of the teams. Throw down the gauntlet by sharing via Faceook and Twitter.

Needless to say, we're expecting more competitive fire this summer during Bike to Work Week. Don't miss out on the fun — start or join a team for your organization at www.bikecommuterchallenge.org today!
