Check out the 2009 Bike Commuter Challenge winners.

Does your company have what it takes?

Compete with other businesses to see if you can get the most employees to bike to work during Bike to Work Week, June 13-19.

Bike Commuter Challenge: How it works.

1. Get a Team Leader.

One person volunteers as a Team Leader. Being a Team Leader is as easy as registering the organization or department as a team and keeping track of who biked at least once, at least part of the way, to work.  We will give you all the tools about bike commuting and the Challenge you will need. Register online today.

Teams compete for the highest percentage of employees who biked to work in their category and division.

Categories:

  • Public Agency
  • Business/Non-Profit
  • Bicycle Related Business
  • K-12 School
  • College/University

Divisions:

  • 5-24 Employees
  • 25-99 Employees
  • 100-499 Employees
  • 500+ Employees

Important - starting June 9, all team leader packets must be picked up at the Active Transportation Alliance Office:
9 West Hubbard St. #402
Chicago, IL 60654

2. Bike!

Employees can bike all or part of their commutes at least once during Bike to Work Week, June 13-19.

It’s the perfect time to try out bike commuting. Check out our resources for bike commuters that will help make biking easy, safe, convenient and fun for the entire team.

Or, call a Commuting Ambassador, who will go to your organization and present to your team about bike commuting, offering expert tips and advice. To schedule a Commuting Ambassador, e-mail commute@activetrans.org.

3. Submit your team’s results.

The Team Leader submits results online. Whether team members bike 20 miles or a short ride to the closest train stop, each trip counts!  Trips are scored as one person biking to work, making participation easy and scorekeeping a breeze. Winners are determined by the percentage of agency or department members who biked to work during Bike to Work Week.

4. Relish in the fruits of victory.

In addition to the prestige of being the greenest and healthiest company in Chicagoland, the winners of each category receive prizes from Bike Commuter Challenge sponsors.

All participants receive bike maps, bike shop discount cards and bike to work guides, and are entered into raffles for sponsor-donated prizes.

Team Leaders will be honored at the sixth Annual Awards Luncheon in July in downtown Chicago, and will receive a special Team Leader tech-fabric T-shirt.
