The Lakefront Trail patch and repair project for 2009 is currently out to bid. The large sections of missing pavement between North Avenue and Oak Street are the highest priority in this project.
As reported by a Trail user last week, the Solidarity Drive underpass (the road out to Northerly Island and the Adler Planetarium) is nearly complete.
With the warmer weather, the Trail is free of ice and snow but not free of salt, run-off and winter surface damage.
Due to the harsh weather last weekend a number of sections of the Lakefront Trail between North Avenue and Oak Street Beach were damaged.
The trail was slushy this Monday morning with lots of salt melting the weekend snow. The water was very rough this weekend and water splashed up and over the trail is several locations.
I rode to downtown on the Trail at about 6:30 p.m. with heavy wet snow falling.
The Oak Street Bend still has some snow and ice on it but is rideable with caution. Amazing how all that hasn't melted yet with the above freezing weather.
On Sunday morning the Trail was clear from Ardmore to just before the South Shore Cultural Center (71st Street).
I rode the Trail from 31st Street to Ardmore at around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday .
