Prepare for your bike commute with Lakefront Trail conditions “traffic report”

As countless Chicagoans wake up in the morning and tune in traffic reports before hitting the road, thousands of others local residents are in need of a much different “traffic report” as they hop on their bikes and commence their daily commute on the Chicago Park District’s Lakefront Trail.
For many years, the Active Transportation Alliance has used its blog to provide Lakefront Trail users with regular updates about trail conditions, detours and events affecting trail use.
Active Trans is now launching an expanded reporting system at www.activetrans.org/lakefront that allows trail users to share current trail conditions via Twitter to provide more timely information on the conditions of the 18-mile trail.
Active Trans is excited about a major milestone for the Navy Pier Flyover coming up this Thursday, as the project goes before the Chicago Plan Commission for approval.

Cruise down the Lakefront Trail May 8 with the Netherlands Consulate General and Active Trans for Chicago’s first Go Green Go Dutch Go Bike! event.

Meet at the Montrose Harbor Beach House the Lakefront Trail between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. (Look for the gray Active Trans tent just west of the beach house). Start your ride any time between 9:45 and 10:30 a.m. and go at your own pace.

Head 5.5 miles south to the John Hancock Center and enjoy the plaza’s flower market and flower carpet display in front of the building's steps and fountain. Then the morning is yours!
Here is an update from the Chicago Department of Transportation on the lakefront trail repair:
Attention Lakefront Trail users: there is construction going on near Navy Pier.
The word we got from the Park District is that CDOT is doing some repairs on the bridge.
