We are loading up our panniers and headed to the suburbs to meet Active Trans members and get feedback about the regional bike map! We are working on an update that will be published in April

The Active Transportation Alliance’s beloved Chicagoland Regional Bike Map is receiving a top-notch makeover thanks to dozens of volunteers riding and researching the roads and paths where they live.
Active Trans will use a grant provided by the Tawani Foundation to update the map’s look and information, like new bike trails, bike lanes and changes in road conditions. You can expect the updated map, our most popular member premium, in April 2010.
“There is a lot of work that needs to be done in updating it. We have to physically go back, recheck, and make a note of all the changes on every single route described on the map,” said Carolyn Helmke, director of planning.
That’s where we turn to the experts – our members who are out there riding the routes.
Dozens of Active Trans volunteers are reviewing the map and more than 100 volunteers are looking for new bike routes, new facilities and anything else that will enhance our beautiful map. Meetings are being scheduled throughout Chicago and the suburbs to involve local communities for the project.
Thanks to a stellar cast of Active Trans members, staff, and all-around-town bike riders, the kick-off meeting for the Regional Bike Map Update was a big success.
