Tips for riding with kids

In a recent issue of Chicago Parent, Jane Healy, president of the Active Trans Board of Directors, offers some great tips on designing rides that will be fun for kids so that they catch the biking bug.

A seasoned professional when it comes to biking with kids, Healy recommends choosing routes that fit well with kids’ abilities and choosing routes that offer fun stops along the way.

If your kids are not ready for riding their own bikes yet, you’ll need to choose between using a bike trailer, a child seat on a bike or a trailercycle. Active Trans has advice on making this decision in Everyday Biking: An Introduction to Everyday Biking in Chicagoland (see page 9 of the PDF).

And if you’d like some tips on helping kids bike to school, check out this article, which appeared in the Active Trans newsletter.
