Lakefront Trail Conditions January 20

As of 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 20, the Lakefront Trail had a fesh covering of 3 or so inches of new snow. Bicycling was still pretty easy, however, as the Trail was dry before the fresh snow. The Park District should have plowed around 6:00 a.m. which should improve conditions considerably.

North Lakefront Trail Conditions 1/23

The trail was again overall clear and free of ice and snow from Ardmore south to Oak St. underpass. Why they cleared the south half of the underpass and not the north side I do not quite comprehend. I guess half is better than not at all.

North Lakefront Trail Conditions 1/26

The trail and underpasses are clear from Ardmore to Monroe (with the exception of the Oak St. curve to Illinois). Woo hoo!

North Lakefront Trail Conditions 1/27

The trail is in great condition still from Ardmore to Oak St curve, then from Navy Pier to Monroe, and am guessing it will stay so until the next storm. Does anyone know what the trails condition is on the Oak St.curve and beyond, down to Navy Pier? I have not even attempted it, but would be curious to know if it is yet passable.

North Lakefront Trail 1/28

Well, considering we had some snow last night the trail isn't too bad (could be better). I rode from Ardmore to Monroe and did not really have too many problems other than a light dusting of snow over what had already been plowed (I did not even attempt the Oak St curve or past it, Inner LSD it was for me). I saw two park district trucks plowing and salting (one near Foster, one near Monroe) so they are out doing the job. The bypass trail south of Fullerton is okay, but the snow hides ruts, so watch out (both runners and bikers). As usual, the trail was in better shape than the roads I took to get to the trail. Go figure.

Oak St. to Ohio St. wasn't

Oak St. to Ohio St. wasn't plowed as of 8.30am. Once you get round the Oak St. curve it's kinda, sorta ridable, but there are icy patches and lumps under the fresh snow. The Inner drive is probably the better option until the plows make it out there...or it melts.

North Lakefront Trail 1/29

The trail was in great shape from Ardmore to Monroe (again I did not attempt from Oat St. to Navy Pier) except for just south of the river where it had not been touched by snow removal people for about 100 feet. Other than that it was in pretty good condition.

It is passable. I had to

It is passable. I had to walk the Arctic-like curve, but beyond that there is a wide clear path all the way down. It actually looks like it's been plowed!

Awesome that the trail is plowed past Oak St.

That is great news. I have faith in the park district now. Thanks for the info Dottie!

agreed! it makes no sense. I

agreed! it makes no sense. I also noticed they cleared some of the bottom and some of the top of the ramp at North, but mysteriously left part of the middle untouched. Perhaps it was time for their lunch break?

Oak Street underpass 1/21 7:30 AM

The Oak Street underpass is still in bad shape, but a crew of 3 Park District employees were starting to attack it on Wed AM with a shovel and a wheelbarrow full of salt. Hopefully they'll make some progress today. There's still no clean and easy way to exit the trail coming south as the North Avenue underpass is still snowpacked. The upper path south of Fullerton has been plowed, but will get rutted as the temps warm up.

Oak Street underpass is still

Oak Street underpass is still in bad shape. The ramp from the path and the street side ramp are still untouched. Not shoveled nor salted. There's few inches of slightly melting, slippery snow to wade through.

just went through the Oak St

just went through the Oak St underpass and there are park district guys shoveling as we speak. I also saw a crew shoveling the underpass between Belmont & Addison, but North is still not clear. Hopefully they'll have all the underpasses finished by this evening.

North Lakefront Trail General Conditions 1/22 and underpasses

I too went through the Oak St. underpass and noticed they had half of it cleared. Better late than never. The rest of the trail is is pretty good condition. No snow or ice really.
