Yes, the budget cuts at the Park District have severely impacted the cleanliness of the Lakefront Trail. They still are doing some sweeping but MUCH less than we have become accustomed to. We are still reporting areas that need to be cleaned to the Park District on a regular basis and will continue to do so, even though the response to those reports is not as quick as we would like.
I wish that we could do more at this point. This economy is hurting us in a lot of ways.
Thanks, Randy.
Times are tough. Good thing the Mayor doesn't know how many flats folks are having on the lakefront. If he did, he'd raise the tax on bike tubes!
Lakefront path sweeping schedule
Hi Randy,
Has the city severely curtailed the sweeping of the lakefront path this summer due to budget/personnel cuts? The path has been full of sand and glass most of the spring and summer. I have heard, literally, hundreds of complaints from fellow riders about flatting on the path due to glass. Ask the mechanics at the Millennium Park bike station about how many flat repairs they've been making.
Any chance we could prod the Park District into performing sweeps at least once a week?
Thanks, Randy.
