Billboard Targets Aggressive Drivers

Congratulations to the Champaign-Urbana Safe Routes to School Project on unveiling their new billboard:

Champaign Safe Routes Billboard

The sign, an incredibly effective visual argument against speeding, is only one small part of a comprehensive program that is getting kids across these two municipalities more active on their way to school.  Champaign-Urbana Safe Routes has also received state funding to improve the street signage around Urbana’s schools, decorated the local buses with transportation safety messages, and is working with the Active Transportation Alliance to introduce a Walking School Bus program at King Elementary.  Cynthia Hoyle and Rose Hudson are outstanding examples of advocates changing the transportation culture in their community.  To learn more about their work with the Champaign-Urbana Safe Routes to School Project, click here.  To learn more about Safe Routes to School where you live, click here.

Is there a safe area to lock

Is there a safe area to lock my bike if I decide to take the CTA into the City. What is the rest of the way in by bike like.

Washington Blvd.

You can actually continue your trip now that there is a bicycle and pedestrian bridge over the river.  Just head East by the courthouse and it will take you right to the CTA station parking lot.  You can then continue your ride or take your bike on the CTA.

Thanks. Is there a safe area

How good is Washington blvd for a bike. Are there a good number of bikes on the road going into the city from say Oak Park or Maywood. I figure there is safety in numbers.

Reply to Washington Blvd trip

You can bring your bicycle into the CTA station and park it and lock it after the turnstiles.  This is a service available at most CTA stations.  For bike trip recommendations, pick up a Chicago bike map from our office for free or go to http://www.cityofchicago.org/Transportation/bikemap/keymap.html for online version.

Washington Blvd

I live in the Western Suburbs I will start working downtown soon my previous job was also in the Western Suburbs which allowed me to commute via bike. Looking at a bike trail guide it looks possible to take the prairie path till it ends in Maywood and then Jog over to Washington and take Washington to Downtown. Looking to see if anyone else does this and what their experiences have been.
