I don't know if this is possible, but my mother, who is in her early 60s (though in decent shape) really wants to learn to ride a bike. I don't think I could do this, just because as her son, it might not be the best chemistry for her to learn from me. Is there a way, or class, that teaches older persons how to ride a bike? Curious.

D,
Thank you for getting in touch. I am the education specialist here at Active Trans. At this time we don't offer individual classes directly. What we can do is I can put your request out to a network of instructors within the region who can provide you with one on one instruction. If that sounds good let me know and I will put you information up on the list serve. Please provide how you would like to be contacted and what municipality or Chicago neighborhood you live in and we'll go from there. You may reach me directly @ jason@activetrans.org

The Trip Planner helps you plan ahead. Simply choose the start and end dates of your trip or event and the Trip Planner will search our historical database for weather conditions on those dates in past years. At http://www.pdfok.com/trip-planner you can found a list of useful information about The Trip Planner.

I tried it a couple times against Google Transit directions. Google Transit gave me better, active trans options - and in some cases when Goroo couldn't find a schedule for me at all.
I think a regional trip planner is important, but this one isn't there yet. And mobile-compatibility is a must (Google's phone apps are going to be tough to beat).

We are beta testing the bike piece. It's okay. I talked with RTA today and they are still working thorugh bugs on the whole thing. But suffice it to say, the bike piece is coming. In the meantime, Ride the City does a good job for a basic bike trip planner.

This trip planner doesn't seem all that much better than the previous one. While driving and driving to transit are nice features for those with a car, biking and biking to transit would be even better, and they're both missing. I told the system that I was willing to walk 3 miles (bike, right?!) and it still wanted me to take a bus instead. I can see that the bus would be faster than walking, but probably not faster than biking. The Mode Shift article says that biking is included, but its not. What gives?
