Bike sharing hits Chicago!

B Cycle made it official today. Chicago is now a bike-sharing kind of city.

bike sharing

While this is sounds like a great idea with good locations, it appears to be a commercial venture disguised as a public service. At $10 per hour or $40 per day, it's as, or more expensive than some of Bike and Roll's "regular" bike rentals. The membership would be economical only if one needed to take many small trips downtown every month. I suspect it will be used mostly by tourists on a whim, who will be riding on unfamiliar streets WITHOUT HELMETS! If we're serious about safety issues, someone needs to figure out an equivalent helmet share machine at the same locations.
