Thanks Wheeling Wheelmen

Bike clubs are a major source of support for the Active Transportation Alliance.  The relationship works like this: Bike clubs want more folks to join them on their clubs' rides.  Active Trans works on behalf of all cyclists—including bike clubs—to make safe places to ride a priority for decision-makers at all levels of government.  Safer and more fun places to ride means more members for the bike clubs.  Bike clubs also help Active Trans prioritize the advocacy issues in their communities.

At the beginning of the year, many bike clubs are deciding which organizations to support.  Active Trans is fortunate that many clubs choose to recognize our work on their behalf by making a donation.  Just this week, we received a $1,000 donation from the Wheeling Wheelman.  A huge thank you to the membership of the Wheelmen!

The Wheelmen are in good company.  This past year we received donations over $100 from: Arlington Heights Bicycle Association, Downers Grove Bicycling Club, Schaumburg Bicycle Club, McHenry County Bicycle Club, Fox Valley Bicycle and Ski Club, Bicycle Club of Lake County, Folks On Spokes, Evanston Bicycle Club, Elmhurst Bicycle Club, Blue Island Bicycle Club/School District 130.

Please ask your bike club to make a donation to further Active Trans’ work to get more people on their bikes. You can contact me at Matthew@activetrans.org.

Don't forget about the Bike Club Council. We meet quarterly to discuss bike club concerns and needs. Please contact me for more information.

It's true

Jay thanks for your post.  It's true, Velo Club Roubaix made that generous donation.  There was an error when I generated the report, and I missed some clubs' donations.  Not only did I leave the Velo Club Roubaix off the list of contributor clubs, I also missed Chicago Cycling Club and Dundee Cardunal Bicycle Club too.  I'm sorry about the error.

Velo Club Roubaix

Way to go Wheelmen! I will continue to support your great rides like the upcoming St. Pats ride and the Harmon 100.

But Michael, don't forget the $1000 given by my club, Velo Club Roubaix. In the past, we have primarily supported cycling racing. However due to safety concerns especially after an aggressive driver collided with cyclists on a group ride last summer in Barrington Hills, we are now supporting Active Trans to help advocate in the North Suburbs and Lake County.
