Did You Know?

Thanks to our generous donors, Active Trans is able to carry out our important work throughout the Chicago region.

More Open Streets, please

If you didn’t make it to one of the Open Streets events held in recent weeks in Chicago, you missed one of the year's highpoints.

Open Streets in the Loop brought students, families, tourists, runners and conventioneers out on a gloriously sunny, perfect day. People took free rides on borrowed bikes, they learned how to skateboard at the block-long mobile skate park and they climbed a rock wall placed in front of the Chicago Theatre.

Open Streets Wicker Park Bucktown was just as fun when Milwaukee Avenue was opened for fun, games and active pursuits. Oodles of people biked, walked and skated the long route between Ashland and Western Avenues. People chatted and got to know one another while watching fencing and slacklining demos.

We hope you’ll agree: More is better when it comes to Open Streets.

You'll be glad to know we're already planning for Open Streets 2013.
