Bike Winter: Woo-Hoo!

I love biking in the winter. Drivers are generally going slower, and they pass me with three feet. My ridiculous hot pink snow suit keeps me completely warm, AND it puts a smile on my face. It's too bad my winter bike broke last week during that amazing sleet/freezing rain/hail/snow storm. My ski pants were covered in something that looked like cake icing and I was having a blast. I've been taking the train and walking everywhere instead of riding my bike this week. I felt very envious when my partner sent me this email:

"When I left today the neighborhood streets were all covered in snow, but I assumed that like every other time in Chicago, the main roads would be clear.  As I was apporaching Armitage fron Albany, I wondered why all the cars on Armitage were going 5 miles an hour.  When I got to Armitage it too was covered in snow and everyone was moving very slowly.  I stared in disbelief as one of the main roads I travel on was in such bad shape.  I decided that this was not worth it at all, and that I should just get on the bus.

Right as I was turning my bike around, a cyclist went by, shouted "WOO-HOO" and said "COME ON!!".

So of course I got on my bike and followed him all the way to cortland.  It was really a blast, I feel like I accomplished something even before I got to work.

WOO-HOO!"

Woo-hoo, indeed. I really need to get my bike fixed.

Studded tires.

Yeah. I am with you there. Dec this year convinced me. Just waiting for my size to come in at the shop.

WINTER RIDING

I love winter riding. Its all about the spiked tires. I got a set of Nokian tires and I have more traction then all the cars on the road. They are definitely an investment, but well worth it. I figure if I fall once and injure myself they have easily paid for themselves, especially if I brake a bone or something.

I highly recommend using spiked tires, especially the Nokian's.
