Attention Lakefront Trail users: there is construction going on near Navy Pier.
The word we got from the Park District is that CDOT is doing some repairs on the bridge.
"They will have a detour up tomorrow that bicyclists and pedestrians can use. They will be closing the east car lane to vehicular traffic, securing boards to the bridge for a smooth ped/bike lane."
We will keep you posted if we hear anything else. Travel safely!

bridge repairs
Any word on how long these repairs will take? The transition area between the sidewalk/trail and the east car lane on the south side of the bridge is terrible.

Thanks for this
The shocking part I heard this morning is that a portion of the pedestrian walkway near the south end of the Chicago River bridge on the east side of lower Lake Shore Drive collapsed sometime last night or early this morning.
I saw the gap and it was a huge chunk, maybe 25 or 30 feet long by the full width of the walkway.
A worker told a cyclist that it "fell in."
This bridge has been having trouble for the last couple of years and was stuck in the upright position last Saturday, closing the Drive.
Did it really fall in?
Rattle
For the past month, there was a rattling noise under that section below the walkway whenever cars would pass overhead. It sounded like metal rods had separated. I wonder if that was part of the problem. I hope no one was hurt.
