Pedestrian Safety Bill Passes

The Pedestrian Safety Bill requiring drivers to stop for pedestrians (rather than yield) passed the Illinois House of Representatives today on a 60-54 vote. The bill now moves to the Senate. The bill has the support of AARP and the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police. Thank you to Rep. Arroyo and Sen. Steans for sponsoring the bill.

For more information, and to see the vote breakdown, please visit www.ilga.gov and search for HB 43.

If your Representative voted for the bill, please thank him/her. Please also call your Senator and ask him/her to support HB 43.

Safety Bill

The idea of cars yielding to pedestrians is fine but, until we can get cars to stop at stop signs, what difference does it make?

Pedetrian Safety Bill Passes

I would like to call my state senator about this, but don't know who it is. Can I look at a legislative map to find out who to contact? I used to live in AZ and there anytime a ped is crossing the street at an intersection or ped cross-walk, the cars MUST stop. This is really enforced by police. What I see here makes my hair stand up, when I see a pedestrian "stranded" in the middle of a busy highway not being able to proceed.
