Safer Streets for Everyone and a More Livable City

All Chicagoans should feel safe on our city's streets—whether driving, walking or riding a bike. Whether you're an 8-year-old child or 80-year-old grandmother, you should be able to ride a bike in the city without fearing for your safety. To make biking safe and easy for everyone, Chicago needs a bicycle network designed with all kinds of people in mind.

Active Trans’ Neighborhood Bikeways Campaign is advocating for a 100-mile network of protected bikeways by 2015. A comprehensive bikeway network has the potential to significantly reduce crashes for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists alike, while increasing the number of people who choose cycling for transportation.

In recent decades, cities in the United States and around the world have benefited from creating safe and comfortable streets that accommodate cycling for all ages. When more people use a bicycle for their everyday trips, everyone benefits.

We need support in your community to build these first 100 miles. Across the city, we are organizing residents in neighborhoods and building aldermanic support to move bikeway projects forward.
